Go behind the scenes for an up-close experience with one of Maymont's coyotes, Bernie or Punkie. Watch a training session and learn about coyote behavior, natural history and the remarkable adaptations that help these curious and often misunderstood animals thrive. 

Coyotes are relatively recent arrivals to Virginia and have become one of the state's most adaptable wildlife species. During this 30-minute encounter, a Maymont animal expert will share insight into how coyotes live, communicate and interact with the changing landscapes around them. 

Program Details 

• Each 30-minute program includes an up-close look at a coyote training session, educational interpretation from Maymont's animal care staff, time for questions and a photo opportunity. 
• Programs take place Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30pm from October 3 through November 29 on select dates. 
• Reservations must be made at least 24 hours before the program begins. 
• Check in at the Maymont Farm entrance by the three large signs by 1:15pm. A guide will meet the group and escort participants to Coyote Plaza. 
• Please wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. The program takes place rain or shine but may be canceled in the event of severe weather. 
• The coyote education area is not wheelchair accessible; Please call ahead for any other accessibility questions. 
• Capacity is limited to 8 guests. Children must be at least 4 years old and accompanied by a ticketed parent or guardian. 
• Please note: You must complete a Liability Waiver form during registration for each participant in your party. No flash photography or direct contact with the animals is permitted.
