Come on a guided tour of the Virginia Wildlife Trail to learn about native species that call Maymont home. These non-releasable animals help us tell the stories of interdependence between animals and their Virginia habitats. Learn about their natural histories, their roles in the ecosystems and human impacts on Virginia’s natural resources. You will also learn about the individual animals’ journeys to Maymont, their favorite pastimes, and details about their personalities.

If you have ever visited and had a hard time finding one of our animals, this tour is for you. Our guides can point out favorite spots for each animal, and loan you binoculars to spot them. Enjoy a meet-and-greet with an animal keeper, who will give an enrichment treat to one of the animals to see how they interact.

Come prepared for an outdoor walking tour of up to an hour and a half, with frequent stops. Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes (heels and flip flops are strongly discouraged) for walking up and down hills, including some uneven surfaces. The full trail is about a mile long. A water bottle is recommended, as well as sun and rain protection. Most of the path is wheelchair- and stroller-accessible, but the terrain is hilly.

The tours take place rain or shine, but may be canceled for severe weather. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times during the tour.

Tours will meet in the lobby of The Robins Nature Center and end at the black bear habitat, which is about a half-mile from the entrance. Admission to The Robins Nature Center is included in the tour price, so participants can come early to visit the gallery or return after the tour is complete. The doors to the Robins Nature Center open at 10am. Participants should check in at the front desk. Participants arriving 15 minutes late or more may be moved to another tour date, but refunds will not be given once the tour starts. Tour size will be limited to 25 participants. Walk-ups are welcome for tours that are not sold out. Children under 3 are free, but parents must bring a stroller or other child-carrying device, due to tour distance.

Museums for All admission is $5 per person for up to 4 individuals. These cannot be reserved online. For advance reservations, bring a SNAP/EBT card in person to The Robins Nature Center, or call to find out if same-day walk-up tickets are available.

CAPACITY IS LIMITED and tours may fill up in advance. There are no refunds, all proceeds benefit Maymont.
