Look beyond the furnishings of Maymont Mansion and discover the technology that made the Dooleys’ home one of the most modern residences in Gilded Age Richmond. 

Led by longtime Maymont volunteer Ed Shepard, this guided focus tour explores the innovations and technological features found throughout the Mansion. Guests will discover bells, hidden panels, mechanical systems and other innovations that helped the household operate with remarkable efficiency and convenience. This special tour offers a closer look at the historic structure through the lens of technology, engineering and domestic life at the turn of the 20th century. 

Tour Details 

• One-hour guided focus tour 

• Meet the guide on the Maymont Mansion front porch. 

• Capacity is limited to 12 guests per tour. Advance registration is highly recommended.   

• The Hampton Street parking lot and Hampton Gate provide the easiest route to the Mansion.

Additional Information: 

Maymont Mansion is not wheelchair accessible. This behind-the-scenes tour gives you access to hidden spaces including narrow passageways, steep stairs and uneven floor surfaces. Please contact Maymont in advance with accessibility questions.
