Step into the Gilded Age on an interpreter-led tour through the well-preserved Maymont Mansion.
Explore rooms filled with fine art, decorative objects and furnishings collected by James and Sallie Dooley during their world travels. Your interpreter will share stories about the Dooleys, their home and the elaborate dinners and soirées they hosted as you explore the formal rooms of the main floor. Then climb the stairs beside the Tiffany stained-glass window to visit the family’s private spaces, including the Swan Bedroom and Morning Room.
Following the interpreter-led portion of your tour, continue at your own pace belowstairs to “In Domestic Service,” an exhibition in restored period rooms that explores the daily lives and work of the Dooleys’ domestic staff, most of whom were African American. Through furnishings and interpretation, learn more about the relationships between server and served, working class and upper class during the Jim Crow era.
Tour Details
- Tours begin at 11am, 1pm and 3pm and are limited to 12 guests per tour.
- Please arrive in time for your selected tour. Your ticket includes the interpreter-led tour and admission to the belowstairs exhibition.
- Please allow approximately 60 minutes to complete your visit.
- Tickets are $15 per person.
- If you receive an error stating that the number of tickets exceeds the amount available, your selected tour may be sold out. Please select another available time and try again.

Accessibility
Maymont Mansion is a historic structure with limited accessibility. The first and second floors are not wheelchair accessible and require the use of stairs. The belowstairs exhibition level is accessible via a ramp. Please contact Maymont in advance with accessibility questions.
